Rig Tension - Amount of purchase required?

Post by Chris G » Sun Nov 15, 2020 4:40 pm

Hi All,

New to International Canoes and having bought one a couple of months ago and sailed it a few times, its time for some changes over the winter. Currently the rig tension is applied through the forestay and I'm looking to make the shrouds adjustable on the water so I can release them offwind. My question is, what sort of purchase do I need for workable system? Also, what sort of travel do I need ie how much do the shrouds need to be released to be effective?

Thanks in advance!!

I have 15-1 on my boat, But anywhere in the 12-1 to 18-1 range should work

Thanks Chris. Struggling to find pictures.
This looks like 4:1 on a 3:1 so 12:1?

Found this old thread. 18:1 or 24:1 with 150mm to 200mm travel? Seems about right? Also suggests the HK313 38mm wire blocks. I was thinking the 25mm versions HK300 or Seldon, Allen, Seaside equivalent?

Better to use low friction rings on the first part if tje purchade at the shroud ends in my opinion. The 1" wire blocks are too close to the limit. Are you in the Canoe facebook group: facebook.com/groups/sail.ic

Its easier to post pics there and is much more active than this forum

Don't do the Facebook thing but I have had a browse there. Assume you could email pictures from here? Many of the links on here don't work anymore it seems.
