Greeting from the Pacific NW. Recently acquired USA155. New to Canoes so, in the dark as to how to run elastic under plank for jib sheets. Also, there is loop of elastic attached to tiller (for centering helm) but, I can find no visible point(s) of attachment to boat. Can anyone draw me a roadmap? Many more silly questions to come, I am sure. Appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Brandon

Hi Brandon

No road map but I set up the same system on my boat. I ran it through a block either side of the tiller at the gun'hles and ran it forward to the chainplates. My thinking being that because of the longer length I got the centering effect with less load needed to steer because of the longer stretch available.

Hi Brandon,
One of the grat things about IC's is they are all unique, if you can take a photo of what you have Im sure there are many who can point you in the right direction.

Cheers

Any number of ways of doing this. Usually there will either be holes/tubes in the end of the plank, or else turning blocks under the end. Either way the leeward sheet goes across the boat to the tube/block on the windward end of the plank. If there's a turning block underneath then the elastic often goes in a drain hole or something on the bottom of the plank to inside the open area. Either way when you get to the end of the open area the elastic either ties off there or alternatively goes round a turning block and back for more strength.

How long is your elastic loop? If its short and heavy then one system is to have the elastic from the end of the tiller to the leading edge of the fixed part of the stock. SUprisingly this does seem to provide enough self centering and is also nicely self contained so there's nothing to rig...

Thanks Gents. I like your idea Jethrow. Just seemed a mystery that there was nothing in reach of the elastic already fixed to the tiller. I imagine I will develope all sort of opinions once out on the water. Be nice to eliminate as many bugs as possible before my first 'crash test dummy' ride though.. Lol.

Just caught your reply Jim. Very helpful! Copy that on the plank and, yes, the tiller system is as you describe. Just couldn't believe that would work! Thanks to all of you, I am much closer to a thorough dunking.;)

Hi Brendon,

I pass through Seattle a few times a year on my way to and from Alaska. If I have the chance next spring I would really enjoy to swing by and talk/sail canoes. I have a good friend on Bainbridge Island & a place to stay.

Can I call you?
