I have been requested as Chief Measurer of the Class to clarify the position on the use of Tee Foil Rudders and the Class Rules.
Appendix 2,3 and 4 cover the measurement rules for IC's and these apply to all IC events. Appendix 2 part 10 ( rudders) states that a rudder with a hydrofoil SHALL be used with the hydrofoil immersed below the surface of the water. It may not therefore be turned over and used upside down with the hydrofoil in any other position than fully immersed. This applies to all IC events. So if you have one, you have to use it in the down position. Second rudder ( without a foil) may however be used in different races.
For International competitions further restrictions do apply. At these competitions a competitor shall only sign in ONE rudder and that SHALL be used throughout the competition. This is a similar restriction to limiting the number of suits of sails that may be used at 2suits.
At the World Championships in August, the committee will be checking rudders and each competitor will be restricted to one rudder of his choice, a hydrofoil or plain rudder for the duration of the competition.
