Alternative penalties...

Post by jimc » Tue Dec 02, 2014 7:36 pm

Here's a little snippet for any who are interested. Doing some research at the RCC today (thankyou Peter Wells) I came across this from 1900.

See "Proposed by W Baden Powell, III" . Its a proposal to abolish disqualification of touching a mark and replacing it by rerounding. Seems to me that's awfully early, but I may be wrong.

Interesting Jim, Presumably this was before the RYA existed and one wonders if any rules of sailing were being administered by any other body?

I wonder Jim if you know Jeremy Atkins who is Vice Commodore at Draycote and joint owner of Fenhurst Books. He has written a book on the history of sailing at Oxford University where a long time ago he was a student. He gave me a copy of his book as most of Chapter One is all about IC sailing at Oxford. He would be interested in this sort of stuff. He now sails a Solo when not injured as at present. If you do not know him I could let you have his contact details.

Cheers Colin
