Everyone will have seen TV coverage of the devastating bush fires raging in Australia at the moment. It is very sad to learn about the loss of life, the impact on wildlife and the loss of property.
A number of you have raised concerns about the potential effect on the forthcoming World Championships at Lake Macquarie.
I have been in touch with Geoff Carne, the Worlds Competition Organiser, who has advised that at Lake Macquarie, the bush is limited to small pockets on the western side. To date there has only been 1 small fire and it has been contained quickly. In addition, most of the other areas where tourists generally visit are on the coast and these areas have not been affected.
Hopefully this provides some re-assurance.
