Hi gang. I was wondering if anybody can identify this boat. I can't find any markings and it has some homestyle features like the rudder mount...but I thought that maybe somebody might recognize it and that would point me in the right direction. It is about 13-14 feet by 4-5 feet. Any info would be appreciated, thanks

What an interesting canoe....

Never seen anything like it on this side of the Atlantic, although it is similar in concept and general design to the wooden Stich'n'glue Carrick designed by Selway Fisher: http://www.selway-fisher.com/Opcan16.htm#CARRICK Also reminds me of the Aquamuse canoe: https://youtu.be/8cJ7B46kES8

I am not sure if anyone here on the IC forum will have much of an idea on what this is.....although you never know.....its not quite the kind of thing we play with.

I would suggest asking two other groups who might have a better idea. They are both based in the UK, but have members across the world.

Open Canoe Sailing Group: http://www.ocsg.org.uk/ and on FB at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/152444938788/

Classic & Vintage Racing Dinghy Association: http://www.cvrda.org/ and on FB at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/cvrda/

I hope you find out what it is. It is a moulded boat, so the chances are that a few of them were made.

Good luck

eib

That, my friend, is a Saroca. I boat that was supposed to be a sailboat rowing boat and canoe all in one thermoformed package. They were going to take over the world with this great concept, but didn't. There were a wide variety of reasons for this, but mostly the boat wasn't really good enough. You cannot have it all, and sometimes when you try you get none.
The multi purpose boat only made sense if you compared the cost of having it instead of all 3 or four of it's functions in 3 or 4 separate boats. There were better sailboats for less money. There were better rowboats for less money, there were better canoes for less money, and there were better square stern outboard canoes for less money.
At the time I was trying to do much the same thing with lightweight Delaware Duckers and finding that people were just not willing to pay for such boats. The Duckers were really nice, but about 6 times more expensive than people were willing to pay.
