Team UK, 2014 worlds

Post by Alistair » Tue Aug 06, 2013 12:09 pm

Hi All
Could those people that are intrested in attending the San Francisco 2014 Worlds send me a message via this forum with contact e-mail addresses, at this stage its really just that, an expression of intrest, so the more the better! I will then be able to keep everyone up to date on training/ transport/ kit/ etc.

I have mailed those people who I have contact details for who I think wanted to go to San Fran next year. If you would like to go and have not had a mail then please contact me (PM or reply to this post).
Crunch time will be in january when we will need deposits for the container!

Hello Alistair,
as yet I have not seen anywhere estimated cost per boat/container for transport or heard about where the container would be loaded. I am assuming also that there may have been a committee meeting discussing these details. If I were going one option I would consider would be to put my car and boat on a ship (Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines) from Southampton to US east coast eg Baltimore and drive to Richmond. Should have done this for the Bristol RI Worlds. But back to reality, not worth taking a Nethercott! Cheers, S

Hi Simon
Shame if you can not make it, would like to see you there. Shipping costs are in the range of £600-£1000 depending on number of takers, but looking like about 12 boats at present. Loading the container will be in Southampton. We will need deposits in January for the container, but more about that in the next few weeks.

Hi Alistair,
I didn't say that I could not make it, just that it would not really be worth taking a Nethercott OD, as there will be probably no others from Europe going, and I am guessing not many US ODs.
Cheers, S.

Simon
I hear that Rob Bell might have a shiny new lightweight Morrison for you to buy in good time for the Worlds!

Simon,
Here's hoping you can make it. If you do and bring a Nethercott, you won't be alone, at last count there could be as many as 4 local ODs on the line and have heard rumors of others.
As for driving from Baltimore, go for it! Its roughly 3000 mi takes about 4 days. I did a similar you're last Summer to Sugar Island and back.
Cheers,
Del

Simon
Andy Paterson (Bloodaxe) has just finished my boat, and has an immediate slot to build a new boat in time for next season - and a choice of designs according to your taste - Morrison, Dragonfly or Maas.

I have e-mailed entry forms to those who I think want to go to the Richmond worlds next year from the UK. If you are intrested but have not received anything can you PM or e-mail me from this forum.

Hello Alistair,
I haven't received an entry form yet. It seems that next year's world's is only being publicised to people who you think might be interested - almost like a private do. As it is obviously such a major event, would it not be better to send emails to every member of the BCU sailing section to give the event a bit more publicity?
Cheers,
Simon

Simon,

That's unfair, it has been made quite clear to everyone through this forum and asked several times for people to contact Alistair if they wish to be involved in the planning process which is still at an early stage . We will be publicising the details as they develop on the website.

Sorry Alistair,
just trying to add something constructive. This website requires people to visit it, whereas an email advertising something arrives on their doorstep so to speak, and they are free to respond if they wish. There are some members who do not visit this website very often if at all. However I appreciate that the class is very small so you do in practice know who is likely to want to take part. But other members might just be interested to have details of the event even if they are not taking part
all the best

Hi Simon
Not many details yet, just trying to get confirmed spaces for the container. As I understand it we don't have a full e-mail list for canoe sailors. I have tried to contact those who have expressed an interest, I sent you a PM the other day. Not sure how else to contact people. In future the changes that are happening in the class structure will mean we have a membership list which will make all this sort of organisation a lot easier!
