Archive list of Champions

Post by Colin Newman » Tue Feb 05, 2013 10:24 am

Prompted by a chat with a friend at Draycote I wanted to look up a bit about the history of the New York Cup and which nations won it right back to the start. On the UK web site and the International Canoe World web site I could find nothing. May be I am looking in the wrong place but where do I find what in the past I recall was a list of all New York Cup winners, along with a list of all past National, European and World Champions? I am sure this material used to be on the web site, where is it now? The class has a longer history than any other with results going back to 1875 or so; it is a real shame if there is no longer any public record of all this past history or is it me just not looking in the right place? I am sure it used to be there or the web, it is a danger of digital technology that things like this can get lost when the web was last revamped.

Test question; where can I find out how many times GB won the New York Cup?

It was agreed that all the archive information was to go onto the international site so i didn't incorporate it on the UK website.

I think JimC volunteered to start putting the old stuff onto the International site.

I still have all the backups pre 2005, don't have the 2005 results as I missed this.

Hi Colin,

Neil has correctly listed winners from 1933 to 1999. Further research needed to go further back, maybe Andrew Eastwood's IC History.

I can add:

2002 Mark Goodchild, John Ellis, Phil Robin (UK)
2005 Mark Goodchild, Simon Allen, Phil Robin (UK)
2008 Hayden Virtue, Seth Dunbar, Tim Wilson (AUS)
2011 Chris Maas, David Clark, Willy Clark (USA)

As 1933 was the first successful UK challenge (maybe first of any) you can count number of times UK has won.

As an aside, UK wins when Mark Goodchild sails for us, and doesn't (2008 and 2011) when he doesn't!

I have created a temporary page on the UK website with this list under http://www.intcanoe.org.uk/index.php?op ... &Itemid=87

This will be moved to the Trophy cabinet later when I have information on the current holders of all the trophies.
