since the worlds in 1987 there have been 115 boats registered yet there are onle 73 on the used boat list. Even my tiny brain can work out that leaves 42 not registered with the association even if only half could be chased down it would leave a healthy 2nd hand list. or are these being kept back to keep the 2nd hand price artificially high
answers on a postcard

Also at the beginning of this year I acquired K136 from being scrapped and am currently rebuilding her, from scratch.

I have K102, "Torment." Finished from a cold moulded hull, and exhibited in the Dinghy show some time @ 1970, sailed a bit then put away some time in 1970's and then orphaned after the owner got suddenly ill and died. His widow kept the boat in the garage untouched until 2009. I am keeping her original to sail on the classics circuit, but making slow progress with the stripping.

The owners son had K111, a black fibreglass boat (nethercott) which he eventually burnt, I guess the hull got too tired and old to repair in a competetive manner. I do however still have the seat, rudder, mast, boom and a suit of very tired sails. Given the provenance of the sail number, is there an arrangement that allows a rebuild?

You mention a "used boat list" what and where is this? Reason for asking is that I've bought K244 and am trying to find info on her. Any ideas?

Peter

According to the boat-list that I have....

244 was a Pyranha Mk2, built in 1993. At one stage of its life, it 'was' owned by Mathew Sweetman and is marked as being sold to France.

Does this sound like yours? Is it a pyranha?

cheers

Another one for the list:

239 “Rosie Cheeks” Razorback. Sold by me to Alain Villiars?, France. (I heard a rumour a while back that she might be back in the UK).

Looking at the records....

It would seem that one answer to where have they gone.....is France!

According to our records (and I don't guarantee they are right) 7 boats have been sold to France since 1987 and 14 since 1980.

Others have gone to Sweden, Germany, USA and Oz.

Of course, I am sure some of them might well of come back also, but the records don't show that.

Thanks for all this useful (although a little depressing) info.

Unfortunately... Having said I had bought 244, I was going to pick her up tomorrow and just received a call from the (expletive) person selling saying she had just sold it to someone else.

So I am now one very cross and frustrated non-owner.

Ok, so anyone know of any other boats for sale ?

Peter

I am about to update the boat list with the new IC's that have just been registered so I will take the information in these messages and include them.

I've updated the list I had from Rob Michael but as for the others if the owner is not known it is not currently on the list as this is pretty meaningless as it is supposed to be a Who's who and not a Boat list. I suggest that a list of boat numbers without any details against them will be of little interest on the website but am open to suggestions.

I suppose I could generate another page with list of boats of no fixed abode which may stimulate some interest. I think the main list currently on the website is the most up to date and I have not seen any other definitive list elsewhere.

Well, we do also have a 'boat register' giving a list of all IC's made, with numbers, builders and dates - since the early days.

It is neither totally accurate nor up to date.....but we could make this available if there was demand.

I find it a fascinating record of the class's history, showing what number of boats were being made and when.

It would be really nice to do a bit more work on the list and the history that it represents.

One for the 'sometime-maybe' pile....as soon as things quite down a bit. :-)

Ed,

That is a good idea and I am more than happy that you have volunteered to compile it  . We can set up a new section and put details of all boats ever made including; construction methods, builder, rig, sails, owners, history etc. Could make a good read especially for the boat spotters.
