Nice job. Funny how the weather always looks about two forces calmer on video than it did when you were out there...

Love the bob under the boat technique, beats swimming all the way round, watching that I had a DURRR obviously moment!

This technique is outlined on the Contender site, which has a series of "how to" videos.

http://contenderskiff.org/en/the-boat/howtosail.html

Click on the "How to capsize like a pro" link, and about 1min 10s into the vid he shows the "Heavy weather, "Eskimo" technique."

It's worth a look at a few of his other tutorial vids. Not only because of the enviable scenery of I presume Lake Como, or the illustration of why it is such a great and glorious thing to be born Italian,... and male, but also because I am sure there is quite alot to be learned from them.

A similar sequence of tutorial videos on the Canoe site featuring ways of taking/gybing/getting out of trouble might be difficult to develop but would be a valuable addition to the main site. Is such a thing possible? Perhaps the Canoe class could match these with our own Welsh, or Cumbrian scenery! :)

Best practice for high-wind 'rig-to-windward' capsize recovery is actually quite different for the canoe....

But I wouldn't dream of teaching grandma to suck eggs....

just enjoy watching someone good doing it!
