Hi Tony,
I have an IC, not an AC, so that rules me out, but I notice on the Weston SC website there is an Int Canoe, Int Moth, Cherub open 14th / 15th August. Is that for definite - I don't think it is mentioned as an event on the IC website, but I would be keen to have a go at that one, especially if there are any other ICs taking part?

Regards
James.

The Weston Canoe open is a mistake in the Weston Sailing calender. No event is planned.

Weston S.C. always seems to live up to its reputation for great sailing, hospitality, venue and beautiful weather.Only this time we had the added wonderful spectacle of a low level flypast and display by a Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane after the days racing with a cold beer on the club patio---absolutely priceless! Worth the trip just to see something so very special.

Racing comprised a mixed asymmetric fleet of 12ft skiffs,B14's,700,Musto,Int.14's,49er,4000,200,400 and AC's. Tony 'Rumpus' Robershaw faired best in the AC's with and overall 2nd showing some excellent speed and handling in testing and trying conditions. 4000 was 1st, by a gnats whisker!

Discussions ashore most certainly centered aound enthusiasm within the AC fleet and anticipation of what should be a very keenly fought Championships at Weymouth. It must also be stated that there was a lot of enthusiasm for further racing at Weston with such superb facilities, even intergrating with other skiff events if necessary. With good tidal prediction timing Weston would make a 1st class sea venue for a Championship.

Steve, Tony, how did you find your boatspeed around the course compared with the Musto's and RS800's in the chop?

Cheers

Charlie, other than some serious shifts and pressure affecting positions, generally I'd say quicker though in fairness there was only one of each class, ie 700 and musto.( No 800's). Don't think Tony or myself were bothered too much with chop which was present on Saturdays racing (15-18 knts) where I got a 1st and 2nd with Tony on a 1st. He would have picked up a 2nd 1st had it not been for a costly spill with kite. B14's were impressive and so was the b***** weed!
