Re: Proposal for increase in minimum weight to 55Kg?

The start of this topic talked about boats being strong, but possibly denting rather easily. If a 55kg limit makes it possible for builders to build a tougher skin and still be competitive on weight it will be good for the reputation of the class and the longevity of boats on the second hand market....

Re: Int Website - New Look - Contributions wanted...

Hi Jim, Sorry, I have only just noticed these posts. I am a freelance graphic designer and have created a possible banner for you, to your spec - except I didn't use yellow text as it seemed to clash, so opted for a crisp neutral white. Hope you like. Two shades of blue to choose from. The photo is ...

Re: Proposal for increase in minimum weight to 55Kg?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my construction questions... probably best to stick with the tried and tested methods! What attracted me to ICs was seeing a picture of Wonk, then a bit later String Theory, and thought they looked like the ultimate singlehanded dinghy. So I brought a Nethercott ...

Re: Proposal for increase in minimum weight to 55Kg?

What about using glass fibre cloth, epoxy and foam construction? Would this result in a boat more resistant to dents? Can you use one layer of woven cloth on each side of the foam, or does it have to be a laminate of at least 2 layers on each side? Glass would seem to be a lot cheaper than carbon, b...

Re: Fixtures 2011

Hi Bob, I am member of Portchester Sailing Club, in the North part of Portsmouth Harbour by Port Solent, but the sailing is limited by the tide and there are a lot of moorings to negotiate, before getting to the clear water. Not ideal for ACs, so I have joined Weston SC for this year. I don't really...

Re: Fixtures 2011

Hello all, I intend to go to Llandegfed with GBR276 (AC). I aim to get to all the events this year... - Ullswater if I can get a week off work - bit far to go (from Portsmouth) just for the weekend. Regarding the initial posts about attendances, last year I had an IC OD and was worried I would be th...

Re: Who's entered for the Nationals?

Hello, I've just brought an AC! (last night). Can I just show up with it at Weymouth early on Saturday morning and do all the registration, entrance fee, etc there? Obviously, I'm still registered with my IC "Longbow" and won't have an opportunity to update anything by tomorrow. Who do I need to con...

Re: Weston Skiff Open 24-25 July

Hi Tony, I have an IC, not an AC, so that rules me out, but I notice on the Weston SC website there is an Int Canoe, Int Moth, Cherub open 14th / 15th August. Is that for definite - I don't think it is mentioned as an event on the IC website, but I would be keen to have a go at that one, especially ...

Re: Rudder pins

Thanks Eib, trying to get back to the club through moorings in gusty wind without a rudder doesn't bear thinking about! So won't use it til it's stopped wobbling. It is a cassette type (through deck), wooden rudder from a Razorback (I believe) Nethercott. Would like to know what is likely to be in t...

Re: Rudder pins

Hello, I'm looking for some advice regarding how the rudder pins are actually fixed into the rudder. Was sailing on Saturday in 20 knots and got into a big tank slapper, lots of zig zagging to correct and finally a swim. Once back ashore I noticed there is some play in the rudder pin, not much - abo...

Re: How to Reinvigorate a fleet?

I may be the problem, or maybe I'm just a one off? The reason I brought a nethercott IC was directly because of "Wonk", the then DC. The dreadnought bow reminded me of a A Class catamaran, and just seemed like an incredibly exciting boat, then I saw Chris Mass' String Theory and I had to get a canoe...

Re: Wanted - Starter IC

Hello, Sorry, I forgot to update my post... I brought "Longbow" GBR262 about a month ago from John Bumby... First experience of sailing a canoe and it is fantastic, I was expecting it too be impossibly difficult... it is difficult but not impossible and very rewarding. Hope to take part in some cano...
