Administrators...

It would probably be sensible to have a few more people signed up with forum and web site management access. Not to do anything, just in case. Anyone who'd like to put hand up pm me. Forum admin is standard phpbb, pretty straightforward. Main site is ftp upload of pages superficially handcrafted in ...

Re: What is an "Avalon built boat?

The data I have is pretty clear that Avalon was a builder. It lists 101 as having builder Avalon/Nethercott and 102 as John Crisp/Nethercott. J Crisp seems to have owned 102 up to 1980. Make of that what you will!

The 60s...

These have come my way from Penny Walker, who is well known 60s sailor Dick Marks' daughter, and niece of Peter Nethercott NethercottCarS.JPG The car is I think a pre war Roll Royce, and the trailer remarkable [grin]. Re: diameter for mast base

You mean as a post up to gooseneck height? I have to admit that I just wildly overbuilt mine: the engineering was above my capabilities... I started with a piece of standard mast section, which ran right down the bulkheads to the keel, and added a lot of unidirectional carbon to the part that was go...

Re: Costs of an IC

Its difficult to know what could be done to reduce the cost of a new boat. A new 49er is around 20K UKP, a Musto Skiff getting on 13K UKP, a 505 28K UKP, and even the 29er, deliberately built down to a price, is nearly 12K. Actually I have to wonder whether our boys are making a fair living. To my m...

Advanced CSS

This is, I expect, going to mean very little to most of you. If so please ignore! There isn't, I suppose, anyone on the forum who is hot stuff at advanced CSS? I've got an oddity in the web site setup which is blocking me from getting a 100% mobile friendly rating from google, which is annoying. The...

IC Life Decked Canoe Archive

I've integrated the Tim Gittins IC Life Decked Canoe archive with the main body of the IC web site. I had to update it to deal with google's insistence on mobile compatible web pages, so it made sense to make it compatible with the rest of the site. There's some good stuff in there, and its a very b...

Site Upgrade Latest

The forum is now fully functional, and I've solved the interaction between the forum and the international website that was stopping the Int Website working. However we have now upgraded the system software that our hosting co wished to upgrade, and that upgrade has also broken the main Internationa...

Re: Hmm, we have some significant problems

OK, we seem to have replies sorted out now. Next will be to try and put something in place to deal with the torrent of spammy registrations that the new software has brought me.

Hmm, we have some significant problems

It seems I can start topics, but not reply to them. I'm looking into this. f the same happens to you you'll get an HTTP Error 500 message if you try. The other problem we've got is that this new version of phpbb is interacting badly with the main IC World web site. In order to reduce this I have mad...

Re: Gooseneck & Kicker Arrangements

Many of the boats with a stump and no lowers find the mid section bends away so its important to get this right, Yes my mast was rather heavily reinforced up to the spreaders, tapering off to a sort of standardish 5515 at the hounds. Although it was also extended at the tip. It seems to have disapp...

Re: Gooseneck & Kicker Arrangements

I suppose you have to figure out how you want your rig to work really. With mine what I wanted to do was have a tension kicker for less drag, and to take lateral kicker/vang loads out of the spar completely. I also wanted no lowers, and a limited capability for the lower mast to bend. I was also hop...

Re: Measurement Practice

As I recall, when the rule was being written, the object of the exercise was to prohibit bumps that meant the measurements didn't reflect the actual shape of the boat. The intention was always to provide a level platform for people to have fun designing boats, and definitely not to provide a platfor...
