SLIDING SEAT NEWSLETTERS

I have hard copies of newsletters from late 1994. Are these of use to anyone for research/archive purposes?

Re: FUTURE OF THE AC

Many thanks to Steve C for his comments from experience. I rather think that the AC will continue to die quietly, though will probably remain alive in a few places. The class has been diluted since the AC came along and the advent of the 2012 rules boats has meant that we now have 3 variants (IC, IC...

FUTURE OF THE AC

i have been sailing my AC for many years and love my asymmetric spinnaker. It adds a whole new dimension to downwind sailing, making it a very tactical leg with great gains (and losses) to be made. I would not wish to see the AC die away through lack of new boats, which looks like the situation at p...

Re: Hiking Winglets

Hi Peter R, The JC, Junior Canoe, was an initiative by the late Peter Wells as a junior IC for youths. He brought the boat to the Nationals at Weymouth in late 1990s, and I did sail the boat. Lively but a bit fragile, light-weight sailors preferred! Photo from Michael is correct boat. Yours looks mu...

Re: K220 - any details?

My records show that Peter H built 115 "Culos Ariba", 148 "Daddy Long Arms" (my first IC), 160 "Running Wild" and 220 "Final Fling". He used to fit a place in his canoes under toe foredeck for a paddle.

Thanks Chris. Love the sequence of Emma submarining and then taking off in her pink canoe (186-190).

Hi Colin,

You can see Andy Green's photos at http://greensea.zenfolio.com/. Search by boat number. I haven't found the ones by Robert yet: I look forward to further replies.

WHAT A CHAMPIONSHIP

Great to see so many canoe sailors at Pwllheli, and to catch up with all those I hadn't seen for some years. It's still the friendliest class around. Very many thanks to Tony and others involved in the organisation. We also managed quite a variety of conditions on the water from drifting conditions ...

Re: strong winds and smaller sails

the gains from the extra power on deep reaches and runs are huge, the losses from the extra rag upwind - if you can stay upright - are more moderate. The problem is staying upright !!!! However if sailing AC there isn't the loss downwind as the spi dominates the speed, not the mainsail. I have an o...

Re: XX World Championship 2017

Not many ACs have expressed their intention to enter yet: yes, I've done so and put my entry in. Come on guys, we need minimum of 6 of us to have a class.
